If you love life, Vodice will be your choice. Although most of the old town of Vodice has been destroyed, there is a long, flowery Mediterranean promenade with many restaurants, ice-cream parlours and party places. Vodice’s popularity lies in the fact that many boat trips depart from here, and even when the sun goes down, life in Vodice doesn’t stop. The beach bars keep the party going until dawn. Come and find out the best holiday activities, recommended accommodation and discover the area!
The Guste konoba is located in the street of the tower. This is one of the oldest restaurants (nowadays it is called Guste steak house). As the name suggests, you can eat here more meat dishes. If you want seafood – a bit lighter – you can go to Arasuna to sit in. Fishing nets are strung around the fence of the konoba, showing the speciality of the place. There are many seafood specialities to choose from, such as mussels, squid, mixed fish dishes and crab soup. Many of them are not very filling, but all the healthier and more spectacular.
Vodice is a wonderfully beautiful Mediterranean town. It has a very pleasant, Mediterranean, colourful, flowery, vibrant atmosphere.
indicating that the area has an extremely rich freshwater resource.
Unfortunately, Vodice does not have the historic old town of, say, Trogir. This is because the old town was completely destroyed during the Venetian-Turkish wars in the 17th century. Essentially, Vodice was surrounded by high ramparts and watchtowers. The price of keeping the Turks out was that they almost razed the whole town to the ground. Walking through Vodice now, there is virtually no sign of the destruction of the medieval old town. What is noticeable is that there are no ramparts and more new buildings than in Trogir, but at the same time there are more restaurants and ice-cream parlours, which compensate for the lack of old buildings. The highest building in Vodice is the Church of the Holy Cross, built in the 18th century. It is a three nave Baroque sanctuary. It is often open and can be visited from the inside.
Vodice’s seaside promenade runs along the front of the town. This is basically a smooth road, which is closed to traffic in the summer. Almost the entire promenade is filled with shops, restaurants and ice cream parlours. As a result, wherever you walk along the promenade, it is beautiful, colourful and flowery. What I would recommend here on the promenade is the Makina konoba. It is actually a larger restaurant. It’s right off the road and has a good sized restaurant area with a tent roof. The interesting thing about Makina is that not only is the food delicious, but as the sun goes down they turn the music up and it turns into a party place. If you go to Makina for lunch during the day, you can see that it’s not just a conoba. In addition to the squid, cocktails are one of the specialities here. In summer, there are regular concerts and often a drinks promotion party.
Vodice town beach starts from the harbour and stretches for a good length in a southerly direction towards Srima. Plaža Hangar-Olimpia Beach, as it is known locally. At the very beginning of the beach there is a concrete pier. Here you can unload your boat on the concrete part and swim in the shallow lagoon in front of the pier. As it is very shallow, it is safe to swim here with small children. The real beach starts after the concrete pier. Vodice’s beach is very-very long. It has quite a small pebble beach. Some people go barefoot. For me, even this tiny pebble stings my feet, so I recommend bringing swimming shoes instead. The shoreline deepens moderately slowly. When you enter the sea there is a larger drop off and then it gradually deepens further. Almost everything can be found on the beach. There are sun umbrellas pre-installed and sun loungers for hire. If you come with a towel and a beach umbrella, it’s no problem, you can swim almost anywhere. What’s great is that there is a narrow row of pine trees between the beach and the promenade, so if you’re feeling a bit tired you can go into the shade;
